Magic Black Forest at Garden Cafe 綠茵閣

At City Garden Hotel, there are some enchanting desserts inspired by Chocolate Rain’s latest fantasy book “Magic Black Forest”!

If you have bought the book, bring the receipt here so that you can get discount when you order the Chocolate rain dessert.

There are four desserts in the series:

Chocolate Rain Forest

Treasure Box

Rainbow in the Sky

Magic Mushroom House

You can order these individually or order the whole set for $350.

Tried the set and my favourites were the treasure box and the rainbow in the sky.
The layered panna cotta reminded me of the award winning steamed egg dish also available at City Garden's Yue.
I found the green cucumber panna cotta interestingly refreshing with a strong cucumber taste.
As for the treasure box, it was more like a treasure bag filled with fluffy cream, walnuts and banana tied with a cola string.

Quality oysters

Casa Fina Seafood & Oyster Bar is one of the restaurants under CASA which are all located in Causeway Bay.

That night we started with an oyster & seafood platter of:
-Pacific Rock (U.S.)
-Namibia(South Africa)
-Isabella(France)
-Gillardeau(France)
-Scampi(NZ)
I have stopped eating oysters in Hong Kong because of the freshness and quality but I will eat oysters from the CASA group because they are good and I have tried them at other branches before without any unpleasant side-effects.
The oysters were fresh and taste different according to where they come from.
My favourite was the Gillardeau because it has the strongest taste.
It was visually stunning to see the whole scampi in its beautiful coral pink shells.
The scampi was sweet and springy that it did not require any seasoning.
++++++++
Next was the caesar salad tossed with crisp sweet lettuce.
++++++++
Then we had Garlic Bread with Sauteed Live Clams with Basil White Wine Sauce.
These sauteed fresh clams had a fragrant basil flavour which really brought out the sweetness of the clams.
The soup was so good that I drank it. There is garlic bread so that you can soak up the broth but personally I prefer it not buttered.
++++++++
The Deep Fried Alaskan Crab Cake was presented as a triangular croquette made with so much crab meat.
++++++++
Then we had the deep fried lamb ribs which had a lovely cumin seasoning.
++++++++
The Tiger Prawn & Alaskan Crab Meat Penne With Lobster Sauce tasted like penne in reduced lobster bisque sauce crammed with lots of crab meat and the prawns were nice and springy.
++++++++
French Duck Foie Gras Linguine With Wild Mushroom Cream Sauce:
This was my favourite, I loved the al-dente linguine tossed in the oil from the foie gras.
There were so many pieces of foie gras and earthy mushrooms.
++++++++
Hokkaido Scallop Risotto With Ink Sauce:
A flawless risotto especially the ink sauce.
++++++++
Last but not least was the 16oz US Prime Rib Eye Steak With Wild Mushroom Gravy (Daily Special).
A great steak for sharing.

London's Aqua Spirit

Much to my surprise, London's aqua spirit, part of the Aqua Restaurant Group originates from Hong Kong.
According to their website it started fourteen years ago and it was so successful that the Aqua Restaurant Group has over 25 venues in Hong Kong, London and Beijing.
There are going to branches in New York, Dubai and Paris soon!!!!

aqua spirit is conveniently located round the corner from Oxford circus station so we went there after some serious shopping at Oxford Street.

We got a lovely table facing the bar where all the magic happens.

The drinks menu was exciting with drinks inspired by Japan, the one that we had was the Fuji Crusta containing ciroc vodka, pear liquor, pear puree and lime.
It was definitely a good choice because it was sweet and fragrant and the glass was stylish with a black and white sesame sugar rim.

We also tried the cranberry mocktail which was sharp and refreshing.

Started with edamame which was sprinkled with my favourite Maldon Salt.

Then we had ebi tempura which was succulent and springy prawns in a perfectly light and crispy tempura batter complimented by a chili mayonnaise.

Then was had these sweet tebaski yaki chicken wings stuffed with coriander and ginger miso.

Last but not least was my favourite maki rolls filled with creamy avocado chunks and fresh salmon topped with salmon roe pearls that gives it a burst of saltiness.

Thanks to the Aqua Restaurant Group, I had a brilliant time as I always do.
Stayed tune for more Aqua related posts :) Hopefully NY and PARIS!!!!!!!

Previous visits to Aqua that might be of interest.

Pulled pork burger by Gabriel Choy - McDonald's

Earlier McDonald's launched the pulled chicken burger which I would classify as British/Indian because of the Tandoori sauce used.
Following the pulled chicken, Gabriel Choy's pulled pork burger made more sense because he used BBQ sauce and purple cabbage slaw.
Comparing to Switzerland's pulled pork burger, Hong Kong has cheese and Switzerland has apple in it.

To be honest, it is weird there is cheese because I don't see Americans putting cheese into their pulled burgers and the bacon is optional as well.
The huge slices of tomato were a bit strange too.

Anyway, it tasted better than the pulled chicken and the barbecue sauce did the trick in other words it was a NORMAL pulled pork.

The bacon made it tastier in terms of salty and smokiness.

Thick cut fries next to normal fries.

Out of this world burger

Tai Kok Tsui is remotely located which is why it was not my priority list to go.
Finally went on a quiet afternoon so that I could sit there and eat.
It is a cute green joint.
It was really hard deciding which burgers to get because all of them were good.
They had Chinese burgers with Chinese toppings, Stylish burgers which are inspired by different countries and soy sauce burgers that I have to try next time.
The toppings were really good because they had blue cheese as well.
I ordered the Singapore Hainan chicken riceburger and the Tandoori masala chicken burger.
While I was waiting for the burgers, I had a cup of Chinese tea.The Hainan chicken burger was just amazing because I love rice and the rice patty on top was firm which went well with the juicy chicken and the bottom rice patty was more flavourful because it was covered in Hainan chicken gravy.The Tandoori masala chicken burger didn't taste Indian at all because there was a strong cajun and oregano taste but it still tasted great.
It was impressive they dressed it with yoghurt sauce because Indian dishes are normally paired with yoghurt.
The chicken was juicy with a nice crispy Cajun coating.

The tandoori burger is a great concept and I think having tandoori chicken filling with yoghurt sauce would also taste good (similar to an English coronation chicken sandwich).

Unfortunately, I have to return to Taikoktsui again for more yummy burgers because they are that good.

Superb SUPPER buffet at JW Marriot Hotel The Lounge Hong Kong

The food at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong is flawless every time I go and all those awards they got are well deserved.

I have been to the brunch three times, dinner buffet once and twice to the supper buffet.

Currently, it costs $368 per person from 8-11pm Thursday - Saturday.
During the 9th-22nd of May, it will cost around $4xx because they will have some extra seafood dishes like:
typhoon shelter crab, sauteed clams in black bean sauce, spicy whelk in wine, oyster fritters with white pepper and cilantro, cuttlefish cake with salt and spices, scallops and broccoli topped with crab roe sauce, congee in lobster superior broth.

It was definitely worth going twice because all my favourite luxuries were there such as abalone, cheese, sashimi, Peking duck, Hainan chicken with rice, soba noodles.

Dessert section:

Here was the food that I had:

The African chicken was nicely done and spicy like how it should be.

Fresh sashimi and my favourite chilled soba.

Delicious congee from the live cooking station where you can choose your ingredients and put as much as you want.

Peking duck pancake:

Springy prawn dumplings:

At the carvery counter, the vegetable selection was quite impressive because they had baked potato and purple potato.

cheese glorious cheese

They had edam, brie, cheddar but the cheese selection is different everyday.

Last but not least, the abalone was amazing, it has taste and texture unlike other places where they are rubbery and tasteless as the sauce is made from roast meats and Chinese wine.

To finish the dessert was also good but unfortunately I was too full but still ate two pieces of apple crumble because it was just divine.
The apple crumble has just the right level of sweetness, a good balance of apples to pastry and crumble.
First piece:

Second piece with lots of creamy vanilla sauce~!~

I WILL BE BACK SOON~
